The Bulls Did Not Settle Anything
The flattering fan version goes like this: ownership finally got serious, cleaned house, and now Chicago can move forward. That is neat, marketable, and not especially useful.
What ownership actually settled by firing Arturas Karnisovas and Marc Eversley on April 6, 2026 is much colder. It settled that this season did not answer the biggest franchise question strongly enough to protect the people who chose the path. That is not a culture speech. That is a governance verdict.
This Was A Direction Failure, Not Just A Personnel Change
If ownership believed the current roster direction had produced a clean positive answer, it would not have delivered the answer in the form of top front-office firings. Teams do not blow out the people at the top when the underlying plan finally looks settled. They do it when the plan still reads as unresolved, expensive in patience, or too fuzzy to defend for another cycle.
That distinction matters because fans always want to turn a firing into action, and action into direction. Front offices know better. Direction is not the same thing as movement. A franchise can make a loud move and still be confessing that it does not yet know what the move-before-the-move was supposed to prove.
Chicago just made that confession in the clearest language ownership has.
The Next Regime Inherits The Hard Part
The lazy read is that accountability arrived. Fine. Accountability is easy to announce once jobs are gone. The harder read is that the next decision-makers are not walking into a solved board. They are walking into a direction problem.
That is the real pressure point here. The firings tell you ownership did not see enough clarity to keep the same front-office structure in place. So the next group is not inheriting a stable identity that merely needs better execution. It is inheriting a franchise that still has to answer what this version of the Bulls is supposed to become.
That is a much less flattering conclusion than "cleaning house worked." It is also the one that survives contact with reality. Chicago did not use April 6 to confirm a successful plan. It used April 6 to admit the plan had not settled the room.
